It's Messy Middle Monday!
Spring is here! Kinda… these frigid temps in the Northeast have me questioning that. Despite the unseasonably cold weather, folks are still feeling the smell of a fresh start that Spring usually brings. But as an entrepreneur, I’m thinking about “rebirth” in a different way this year.
Rebirth isn’t about starting over. It’s about restructuring what already works. For a lot of entrepreneurs, growth isn’t necessarily the problem. Many of us are seeing the revenue potential and opportunities to take the business further.
I’m working with a client right now who has a business that works. Clients are coming in. Revenue is growing. From the outside, it looks like momentum.
But behind the scenes? Everything still runs through her. Decisions bottleneck. The team waits. And every “win” quietly adds more weight. By no means is she failing BUT she’s carrying the business.
What we’re seeing in real time is this: growth didn’t break the business. It exposed it.
And the lesson we keep coming back to is simple, but not easy: structure is what changes everything. Not more effort. Not a rebrand. Not burning it all down.
If your business feels heavy right now, try this: instead of asking “what should I do next?” ask “what is this business currently depending on me for that it shouldn’t?”
I put together a simple checklist called Inside the Fix. It walks through how I think about assessing and rebuilding without starting over. If you want it, it’s linked below.
