At this point, there are enough messages about self-care and work-life balance to make you feel guilty for not meditating, drinking enough water, and having a perfectly optimized morning routine.
I’ve bought into that pressure too.
For years, I treated sustainable leadership like something I’d earn later: I’ll slow down when things calm down. I’ll protect “deep thinking time” once I catch up. I’ll lead differently when the business is less messy.
But “later” is slippery.
What I’ve learned is that sustainable leadership isn’t a perfect routine. It’s noticing what changes when I create even a little more space.
My creativity gets sharper. Decisions feel less reactive. I can actually think beyond what needs to happen by Friday.
Do I do all of these things every week? Absolutely not. I’ve done every one of them… just rarely all at once.
Not as another checklist to master, but as a reminder of what leadership can look like in real life: clearer priorities, shared ownership, stronger support, and protected thinking time.
Pick one shift from the map that would give you a little more room this week. Here's mine... I'm taking an hour for lunch every single day this week!
