Is it too early for a reset?

It's Messy Middle Mondays

Happy Monday Reader!

It’s the last week of February and the weather on the East Coast is not cooperating!

The adrenaline of January has officially worn off… and the calendar is starting to feel louder than your vision.

Some of my clients are already feeling it. The quiet pressure of realizing they may have overcommitted for the year. Too many yeses. Too many moving parts. Not enough room to breathe.

And when that realization hits this early, the question comes fast:

Is it too soon to change my mind?

This time last year, I had just been promoted to Vice President of Finance and People.

At the time, I was Chief of Staff and two years into running The Roadmap Coach. I had a solid client list. I had just finalized my 2025 strategic plan 30 days earlier. It was clean. Clear. Locked in.

Then the promotion came.

And I remember thinking:
What is this new role going to require from me?
What am I going to have to sacrifice?
Is growing TRC still realistic or am I lying to myself?

By the end of February, I booked myself a one-day office rental. No distractions. Just me and the plan I had so confidently written a month earlier.

My goal didn’t change. But my relationship to my time did.

I edited the plan. I adjusted where I would sprint. I got honest about capacity. I stopped pretending the workload wouldn’t impact me.

And I still hit my goal that year.

Not because I’m special.
Not because I have superhuman discipline.
But because I gave myself permission to recalibrate early, before burnout made the decision for me.

I call this the mid-Q1 reset.

It’s the quiet recalibration no one talks about.

Here’s the simple tool I want you to use this week:

Before you blow up your year…
Before you decide you’re “bad at follow through”…

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. What did I commit to before I fully understood my capacity?
  2. What actually requires my energy in this season?
  3. If my goal stays the same, what needs to shift about how I pursue it?

That’s it.

No dramatic pivots.
No public declarations.
Just honest edits.

You have the right to change your mind.

And February isn’t too early for a reset.
It might be the most responsible time to do it.
